Inaugural Good Tech Fest held in
Nairobi, Kenya

On October 7th, we proudly hosted our first international, in-person event in Nairobi. This intimate gathering brought together around 50 leaders from the social impact, technology, and funding sectors, all selected through a competitive application process. The event focused on exploring innovative ways to leverage technology to drive greater impact in critical areas such as climate, agriculture, food security, and beyond. The discussions and collaborations during the event marked a significant step toward fostering cross-sector partnerships and advancing solutions for global challenges.

What we covered

  • During our opening keynote we will hear from leaders of nonprofits, social enterprises, and companies about how they are utilizing emerging technologies such as AI, remote sensing, and edge computing in ways to achieve their mission.

In this session you'll hear from Hello Tractor Founder & CEO Jehiel Oliver, SameSame CTO Codie Roelf, and GivingTuesday Chief Data Officer Woodrow Rosenbaum.

  • The majority of our day will be spent in a series of roundtable conversations that attendees can choose between. We will have sessions on topics such as new methods in program evaluation, getting started with AI, leveraging edge computing and IoT, how technology can drive policy changes, and what happens when you build technology and algorithms with your community. These will be co-facilitated by a few of our guests and our a great opportunity to hear from the amazing other attendees of the conference.

  • I cannot wait for this closing session. We will be hearing from a couple amazing speakers about the concept of spatial apartheid. Using data and AI they explore issues of equity and they're intersection with place. This is going to be a fantastic talk that you will not want to miss.

  • After a day of connecting with your peers, leaders, and future collaborators it will be time to celebrate and relax. Join us for a reception following our closing keynote.
